Philadelphia to face LAFC in MLS Cup after stunning second-half rally downs NYC

The best in the East and the West will face off in the MLS Cup after Philadelphia Union launched a stunning 11-minute second-half rally to defeat reigning champions New York City 3-1 on Sunday.

Union will take on Supporters Shield winners LAFC in the season decider on November 5 at Bank of California Stadium, with Steve Cherundolo s side easily accounting for Austin 3-0 earlier on Sunday.

Philadelphia had lost to NYC in last year s Conference Finals but a burst of goals from Julian Carranza, Daniel Gazdag and substitute Cory Burke sent them into their first-ever MLS Cup.

NYC had silenced the Subaru Park crowd when they went ahead in the 57th minute from Maxi Moralez s low strike after a cushioned pass from Santiago Rodriguez.

Mbappe adds condition for Real Madrid move

According to , Kylian Mbappe s move to Real Madrid is edging closer. In fact, the tone of the report is such that they obviously believe it has now become imminent.

However, the 22-year-old forward will join Los Blancos on lower wages than he would have been receiving had he opted to sign the new Paris Saint-Germain that has been offered to him, which in turn demands a few sacrifices from the Spanish giants in his favour. First of all, he wants to be the star of the team a role he s been sharing with Neymar, and now Lionel Messi, at PSG.

But he also wants guarantees that he would be allowed to represent France at the 2024 Olympics, set to take place in Paris, and his contract, should his move to the Santiago Bernabeu happen, is likely to contain a clause which would sat…

Lennon´s delight at clinical Celtic

Celtic manager Neil Lennon praised his side for Saturday s 5-0 rout of St Mirren, hailing his goalscorers for their finishing.

Gary Hooper netted a hat-trick and Georgios Samaras and Dylan McGeouch added the other two in the Scottish Premier League match at Celtic Park, in a result that never looked in doubt for the home side.

Lennon lavished compliments about all three scorers in the match, with McGeouch, 18, scoring his first goal for the club after returning to Celtic this season.

I couldn t ask for any more from the players. Hooper was sensational, as was Samaras, and for a young player like McGeouch who is a Celtic fan as is his family it was a special moment and I m sure he is a very proud boy tonight, Lennon said.

Georgios deserved a standing ov…

Stockdale recalled to cover injured Schwarzer

Fulham have recalled goalkeeper David Stockdale from his loan spell at Ipswich, after a spinal injury to Mark Schwarzer sustained on Saturday.

Schwarzer and Fulham had been enjoying a good run of defensive form before the Swansea defeat, with only Manchester City (15), Manchester United (14) and Liverpool (13) conceding fewer goals then Fulham (18) this season.

Stockdale s return will present him with a chance to claim a starting berth in Martin Jol s side in the 39-year-old s absence, with Schwarzer sidelined until January.

Since his move from Darlington in 2008, Stockdale has failed to gain a regular place in the side and has endured spells on-loan at Rotherham, Leicester, Plymouth Argyle and most recently Ipswich.

Despite mainly featuring in the Champ…

Prediction: Republic of Ireland vs Netherlands

Verdict: Under 2.5 goals

Best Odds:

Bookmaker:

There are still quite a few places up for grabs in Martin O’Neill’s final Euro 2016 squad, meaning that Republic of Ireland players are likely to take the Netherlands friendly very seriously. Oranje have been pretty disappointing of late, but they have won on their last two visits to the UK, recording 3-2 and 2-1 victories over Wales and England respectively.

Republic of Ireland

Republic of Ireland are not exactly one of Europe’s most successful sides, but the team have been on an uptrend at the turn of the century and they have now qualified for successive European Championship finals. The Irish were unfortunate to be placed in a star-studded group at the Euro 2012 tournament, resulting in three gr…

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is confident Christian Eriksen will sign a new deal.

The Denmark international s deal is due to expire in 2018 and Spurs are keen to hold on to the attacking midfielder beyond that date.

Negotiations over a renewal have so far been unfruitful, but Pochettino sees no reason for concern.

We ll see what happens in the next few weeks. He has two more years left on his contract and he s happy here.

It s just a question of time to agree a new contract.

He netted eight goals in 47 appearances in all competitions las…

Fiorentina, Sunderland vying for Daniele Padelli

Fiorentina and Sunderland are among clubs showing interest in Torino goalkeeper Daniele Padelli, Tuttosport can reveal.

The Italian shot-stopper will be relegated to the bench once Joe Hart completes his move to Stadio Olimpico and chances are that he will leave the club before the summer transfer window closes tomorrow.

Tuttosport has learned that Fiorentina, Sunderland and Atalanta are all keen on the 30-year-old footballer.

Daniele Padelli is a late bloomer, having made mere 12 Serie A appearances before joining Torino on a free transfer in the summer of 2013.

However, he went on to nail down a regular starting berth at Stadio Olimpico and has since made exactly 100 league outings for the Granata.
